This article specifies where core files are written to in the Routing Engine (RE) file system.
Unable to figure out where core files are written to in the RE file system.
In the RE file system, core files are created after daemon crashes; for example, rpd, snmpd, ilmid, chassisd, and so on. (rpd: Routing Protocol process. snmpd: SNMP process. ilmid: Integrated Local Management Interface process. chassid: Chassis process.)
In the RE file system, core files are stored in /var/tmp.
Also, the following hidden option has already enabled by default. But, Setting or deleting dump-on-panic has no effect.
If system dump-on-panic is enabled, PFE core files are placed in /var/tmp.
[edit system] + dump-on-panic;
If chassis dump-on-panic is enabled, kernel crashes are placed in /var/crash.
[edit chassis] + dump-on-panic;
Note:
- system dump-on-panic is enabled by default since Junos OS Release 5.0.
- chassis dump-on-panic is enabled by default since Junos OS Release 5.4.
