The adaptive services process (spd), which provides the user interface for management and configuration of Adaptive Services and Multi Service Physical Interface Cards and also Multi Service Dense Port Concentrators (ASPICs, MSPICs and MSDPCs), could not create a version of itself to run in the background as a daemon. This only applies to M, MX and T series routers.
The SPD_DAEMONIZE_FAILED message is logged each time the adaptive services process fails to create a daemon instance of itself to run in the background.
When a SPD_DAEMONIZE_FAILED event occurs, a message similar to the following is reported:
spd: SPD_DAEMONIZE_FAILED: Aborting, unable to run in the background as a daemon: <error-message>
The cause may be due to system memory being exhausted, or to an internal error.
Examine the following output to help determine the cause of this message:
show log messages show log spd
Look for any related events that occurred at or just before the SPD_DAEMONIZE_FAILED message.
Perform these steps:
- During a maintenance window, as it will impact transit traffic, try restarting the spd process. For more information on restarting a process, refer to Restart a Junos Software Process.
