This article describes the issue of the Update Failed – Please check settings and try again error message being generated, when trying to register a BlackBerry device to the Mobile Security Gateway Console.
- The Blackberry device’s Mobile Security Suite application fails to register to the Mobile Security Gateway Console.
- The following error message is generated, when trying to register a BlackBerry Device to the Mobile Security Gateway Console:
Update Failed - Please check settings and try again.
Solution 1:
Check Browser Push to ensure that everything is Auto, Allow All, and Enabled:

Edit Permissions. Everything should be set to Allow (nothing should be set as Custom):

- Highlight MSS Application
- Menu
- Edit Permissions
Edit Default Permissions. Everything needs to be set to Allow (nothing should be set as Custom):

Turn the device off and take the battery out and wait for two minutes. Turn the device on and go to Application > Register.
Solution 2:
Refer to the TCP/IP Settings Guide for your Locate Carrier (that is AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, and so on). Verify the APN, Username, and Password fields:

- Change Appropriate Fields
Turn the device off, take the battery out, and wait for two minutes. Turn the device on and go to MSS Application > Register.
Solution 3:
Verify if the Registration information is correctly typed in the settings:
- Go to MSS Application.
- Select No, when asked to update with the latest server settings.
- Select Menu.
- Select Settings.
Verify if the following information is correct:
- License Key
- User Name
- Phone Number
- Try to manually type an incorrect password.
- Select the Back Key and the MSS Application should start the registration process.
- The registration will fail.
- Then manually enter the correct password.
- Select the Back Key and the MSS Application should start the registration process.
