Ethertype of QINQ:
- 0x8100 is the standard ethertype for single tagged frames (802.1Q).
- 0x88a8 is the standardized value for QinQ (802.1ad).
- 0x9100 (non-standard QinQ ethertype) can be used especially in a multi-vendor environment.
When dot1q-tunneling is enabled on an EX switch, the default etype is 0x88a8. When mapping a specific Interface is enabled, the default etype is 0x8100. You should be careful with other vendors for QinQ; if there a wrong etype configuration is present, the following error message is generated:
