The ‘PSU Fan failed’ alarm is set and cleared on the EX8200 Virtual Chassis

This article describes the issue of the PSU Fan Failed messages being generated in the system log (syslog) on the EX8200 Virtual Chassis; even though the PSU fan is working normally.

On the EX8200 Virtual Chassis, PSU Fan failed messages are generated in the syslog; even though the PSU Fan is working normally.
For example:

These alarms are false alarms and are short duration events, due to a software issue.

  • PSU Fan Failed alarms are continuously generated and cleared after 5 seconds in syslog.
  • Check the LEDs on the PSU. Green LEDs indicate that the PSU is operational.

This issue has been fixed in Junos 11.4R6, 12.3R1, 12.2R2, 11.4R5-S2, and 12.1R5.
