High Heap utilization on the forwarding process (FWDD).
The RMON_EVENT_fwdd_high_heap_utilization message contains data regarding the heap utilization of the forwarding process (FWDD) on J-series and SRX routers.
With RMON configured, a message is logged when the heap utilization crosses a threshold. The message that is logged will look similar to the following:
SNMPD_RMON_EVENTLOG: fwdd_high_heap_utilization: <message>
Excessive heap utilization by FWDD can be caused software issues but might be also due to hardware issues. Further investigation is needed to determine a cause.
Examine the following output to help determine the cause of this message:
show log messages show chassis forwarding
The chassis forwarding output will give the current heap utilization. It is useful for tracking heap usage over time. In the messages log, look for any related events that occurred at or just before the RMON_EVENT_fwdd_high_heap_utilization message.
Perform these steps to troubleshoot this issue:
- During a maintenance window, as it will impact transit traffic, try rebooting the Routing Engine.
