This article describes the issue of the PSU Fan Failed messages being generated in the system log (syslog) on the EX8200 Virtual Chassis; even though the PSU fan is working normally.
PSU Fan Failed messages are generated in the system log (syslog) on the EX8200 Virtual Chassis; even though the PSU fan is working normally.
On the EX8200 Virtual Chassis, PSU Fan failed messages are generated in the syslog; even though the PSU Fan is working normally.
For example:
May 30 12:31:37 send: yellow alarm set, device PSU 1, reason PSU 1 Fan Failed May 30 12:31:37 CHASSISD_PSU_FAN_FAIL: Fan Fail for power supply 1 May 30 12:31:42 send: yellow alarm clear, device PSU 1, reason PSU 1 Fan Failed Jun 1 06:11:05 send: yellow alarm set, device PSU 1, reason PSU 1 Fan Failed Jun 1 06:11:05 CHASSISD_PSU_FAN_FAIL: Fan Fail for power supply 1 Jun 1 06:11:10 send: yellow alarm clear, device PSU 1, reason PSU 1 Fan Failed
These alarms are false alarms and are short duration events, due to a software issue.
- PSU Fan Failed alarms are continuously generated and cleared after 5 seconds in syslog.
- Check the LEDs on the PSU. Green LEDs indicate that the PSU is operational.
This issue has been fixed in Junos 11.4R6, 12.3R1, 12.2R2, 11.4R5-S2, and 12.1R5.
