Catalyst 5000/6000 CLI Syntax Conventions

All well-documented equipment uses a standard representation for interpreting commands. The Catalyst is no exception. Cisco documents how to interpret the printed commands of its documentation. Table 4-1 summarizes the command syntax conventions used in the Catalyst documentation and in this book.

ItalicArguments for which you supply values are in italics.
[ ]Elements in square brackets are optional.
{x | y | z}Alternative required keywords are grouped in braces and separated by vertical bars.
[x | y | z]Optional alternative keywords are grouped in brackets and separated by vertical bars.
StringA nonquoted set of characters. Do not use quotation marks around the string or the string will include the quotation marks.
